Is a tech sales bootcamp worth it?

Updated · 6 min read · By the Elevate admissions team

The short answer

A tech sales bootcamp is worth it if you want a structured, fast route into an entry-level SDR or BDR role and you're ready to do daily outreach work. Look for live coaching, real CRM practice, mock interviews and active job placement help. It's worth it most when funding such as WIOA lowers your cost.

Who it's a good fit for

  • Career switchers from retail, hospitality, customer service, the military or the trades
  • People who like talking to people and can handle hearing “no”
  • Anyone who wants a white-collar career without a four-year degree
  • People who've applied for SDR jobs on their own and aren't getting callbacks

It's a weaker fit if you dislike phone work, want a fixed salary with no variable pay, or aren't able to commit several weeks of focused time.

What a good program should include

  • Live, instructor-led classes, not only recorded videos
  • Hands-on practice in Salesforce or HubSpot
  • Cold calling and email practice with feedback
  • Mock interviews and resume/LinkedIn help
  • Introductions to hiring employers, with named companies where graduates work
  • Clear tuition, refund policy and state licensing

The cost, and how to lower it

Tuition varies widely between programs. Elevate's 10-week SDR bootcamp lists tuition of $20,195. Eligible students in Arizona and Illinois can have up to 100% covered through WIOA grants. Other options include payment plans and income-based private loans.

When you compare costs, set them against the target salary. Elevate lists expected Year 1 earnings of $60,000–$85,000 OTE for SDR and BDR roles, from public RepVue and Indeed compensation data.

Questions to ask any bootcamp

  1. 1Is the school licensed by a state agency? (Elevate: Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education, license NAV-01727.)
  2. 2Can I talk to, or see posts from, recent graduates?
  3. 3Which companies hired your last few cohorts?
  4. 4How much of the program is live versus self-paced?
  5. 5What happens if I don't land a job right away?
  6. 6Is it on my state's WIOA Eligible Training Provider List?

What graduates say

“A month after I started bootcamp I received an offer from DNSFilter.” — Sophia Seniga, Business Development Rep

“If you had told me 3 months ago that I would go from working a register at a convenience store to having a career as an SDR, I probably would have asked you what an SDR is.” — Justin Franklin, Sales Development Rep
